Meet the Coaching Staff
Mike has over 30 years of playing, teaching, and managing experience in the tennis industry. Mike played at Florida International University in Miami, Fl from 1984-1985 and at Montclair State University, NJ from 1985-1987.
Mike was Assistant Tennis Pro at Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World from 1988-1992 and Head Tennis Professional at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa from 1992-1997. Mike was Resort Operations Manager for Walt Disney World Resorts from 1997-2001 and Director of Tennis at Spanish Wells Club, Hilton Head Island, SC from 2002-2015. Mike is a USPTA Certified Elite Professional.
Neely has worked in the tennis industry for over 7 years, coaching players of all ages and levels. A Radford graduate, Neely was the Captain of her college Division 1 Tennis team as a sophomore.
Her career in teaching tennis began as she coached, improved and grew the Mount Vernon Park tennis team/program in Alexandria, Virginia. PTR and Cardio Tennis certified, Neely is a skilled coach who brings liveliness and enthusiasm to our MNTC patrons.
Mark has been playing competitive tennis for over 30 years and coaching for over 15 years, beginning with his military career in the US Air Force. He played for and coached his squadron’s team during active duty in England, California, Korea, and finally at Langley Air Force Base here in Virginia. Before coming to MNTC, Mark was Assistant Teaching Pro at the Hampton Tennis Center.
A local fixture, Mark has won numerous local Hampton Roads titles over the last decade in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Mark’s passion and desire to see his students learn to play tennis and improve their skill level is enthusiastic and contagious. Mark is a USPTR certified instructor and an Oscar Wegner Modern Tennis Methodology certified coach.
Lorenzo has a wealth of playing and coaching experience, focusing especially on physical fitness as a prerequisite to raising a player’s performance standards. Born in Basel, Switzerland, Lorenzo attended Jamestown High School where he led the tennis team to Virginia State honors. In college, Lorenzo was team captain of the Christopher Newport University Captains tennis team for three years and was named to the All-USA South Athletic Conference teams. Lorenzo graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications in 2011.
Lorenzo’s professional playing experience includes competing in the ITF Pro Circuit in Asia. Coaching experience includes assisting former ATP Tour top 50 player Mike Bauer at Harbor Point in Alameda, CA and assisting Brent Hughes at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA.
With extensive expertise and experience researching and designing fitness-based development programs, Lorenzo provides proper training and values to aspiring athletes both on and off the sporting fields. For more information, see Lorenzo’s ITS site.
After two years of working for the U.S. State Department, one of MNTC’s longtime coaches is returning to the team while earning his MBA from William & Mary School of Business. Prior to coaching, Cole was a successful high school and collegiate player. As a Williamsburg native, he led Lafayette High School to the AA Virginia Doubles State Championship in 2011, for the first time in 14 years. Cole then played collegiate tennis at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA until 2013.
As a coach, Cole taught part-time at the tennis center for over six years before he joined the U.S. State Department in 2016. During his time at the capital, Cole earned his PTR certification and taught juniors in Arlington, VA for FirstServe Tennis, one of the beltway’s premier junior organizations.
Don has over 30 years of tennis industry leadership experience working with players at the local, college, national, and international levels. He has attained certification in USTA High Performance and Sport Science Coaching, has the highest PTR (Adults, Juniors, and Performance) certification level, and is USPTA and Etcheberry Elite certified. He is also Ambassador for the National Champion “Washington Kastels”. Prior to coming to MNTC, Don was for eight years Head of Player Development for Juniors and Lead Pro for the USTA’s Southeastern Competition Training Center at “An Achievable Dream Academies” in Newport News, VA. Don proudly served his country with 27 years of distinguished Naval service and during several tours of duty here in Virginia, Hampton Roads became a favorite living area.
Don is a skilled teacher of tennis, bringing passion and the latest tennis sport science and player development techniques to our MNTC patrons. In April of 2014, Don was one of 17 out of over 2,000 USTA High Performance coaches selected to participate in the USTA High Performance Continuing Education Program, focusing on advanced mental skills techniques and practical, yet powerful ways to bring mental training to players on and off court.
Josh is from Purcellville, VA where he payed number 1 for LVHS. He previously taught at Chestnut Forks Tennis Academy as well as Franklin Park.

Johnny is from New York City, New York. He previously taught at Matchplay New York. Johnny is a Freshman at W&M playing on the club team!
Joe is the MNTC Information Technology Systems Engineer. Joe worked for many years as a software engineer, systems engineer, security architect, instructor and manager for companies such as IBM, Lockheed Martin, and Newport News Shipyard.
Joe is a National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) accredited Interscholastic Tennis Coach for the state of Virginia, a USTA/PTR Net Generation Certified Coach, has a Specialized Certification in Adaptive Tennis from PTR, and has completed the USTA SafeSport Junior Team Tennis and Coach Youth Tennis training programs.
